Senator Brown Is Protecting A Woman’s Right To Basic Healthcare And Fighting Those Who Would Take Away A Woman’s Right To Make Decisions About Her Body.
Senator Brown has voted against laws like the Global Gag Rule which blocks federal funding to overseas organizations that perform abortions, and against laws that barred funding in the budget to Planned Parenthood. When Susan G. Komen cut funding to Planned Parenthood Sen. Brown publicly urged them to reverse their decision and the effort was successful.
In Ohio, Senator Brown’s helping to lead the fight against the “Heartbeat Bill,” which if passed would be the most restrictive reproductive law in the country. If enacted, this law could make some abortions illegal after just 18 days, which is before most women even know they’re pregnant.
Senator Brown Stands Up For Sexual Assault Victims
Unbelievably some federal contractors wanted their employees to sign contracts that they would resolve through arbitration any claims made against their coworkers relating to sexual assault. Senator Brown voted for a bill that would bar federal funds to any federal contractor condoning such an apathetic attitude towards sexual violence.
Senator Brown Is Fighting To End Workplace Discrimination
As a strong believer that women should be equally compensated for work equal to their male counterparts, Senator Brown voted for the historic Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which allows workers who are discriminated against to file charges of pay discrimination within 180 days of the last received paycheck. This law would renew the 180 day statute with each instance of discrimination.
Senator Brown Supports Access To Affordable Birth Control
Women deserve access to affordable birth control and Senator Brown has voted against attempts to deny women access to contraception and supported measures to keep out of pocket costs low.
Senator Brown Voted For The Family Medical Leave Act
Senator Brown supported the Family Medical Leave Act which among other provisions allows female workers to take 12 weeks of leave without losing their job when pregnant or due to family emergency.
