“Veterans and Servicemembers for Sherrod” Coalition To Kick Off Statewide Tour

COLUMBUS, OH – Next week, the “Veterans and Servicemembers for Sherrod” coalition will kick off a statewide tour featuring Ohio veterans, servicemembers, and military families. Ohioans will highlight Sherrod’s record fighting for veterans and servicemembers by passing the PACT Act, fighting for housing protections for veterans, saving the Chillicothe VA, and honoring the service of Ohio’s veterans, servicemembers and their families.

The statewide tour will kick off in Dayton next week with additional stops planned in Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, Mansfield, and Youngstown.

“This election is about whose side you are on, and I’ll always stand on the side of Ohio’s veterans, servicemembers and their families by fighting to ensure they receive the resources, benefits, and recognition they deserve,” said Senator Sherrod Brown. “We have an obligation to serve our veterans and servicemembers during their service and as veterans and I am honored to have their support this year.”

“Sherrod has led efforts to tackle veteran homelessness, cut red tape to get veterans the health care they deserve, and passed legislation that honors our nation’s medal of honor recipients,” said Veterans and Servicemembers for Sherrod co-chair and retired Airman Melissa Rodriguez. “Ohio veterans know the stakes of Sherrod’s election, he’s had our backs, and now it’s time to have his.”

This summer, Sherrod was joined by Senator Duckworth, State Representative and U.S. Army JAG Corps Reserve Colonel Adam Miller, and Melissa Rodriguez at a “Veterans And Servicemembers For Sherrod” event in Columbus

Sherrod has always fought for Ohio veterans, servicemembers, and military families to make sure they get the benefits and honor they deserve:

  • Sherrod wrote and passed the bipartisan PACT Act to secure healthcare and benefits for veterans exposed to toxins and burn pits during their service. Sherrod has hosted roundtables across the state to ensure veterans are aware of the benefits available to them through the PACT Act.
  • Sherrod passed the bipartisan Keeping Military Families Together Act through the Senate which extends the authority for servicemembers’ spouses and children to be buried in national cemeteries.
  • Sherrod passed the bipartisan Mark Our Place Act through the Senate to memorialize all Medal of Honor recipients and preserve their legacies.
  • Sherrod introduced the Veterans Housing Stability Act to prevent servicemembers and veterans who used home loans during the COVID-19 pandemic from losing their homes. Sherrod also successfully pushed the VA to launch a program helping servicemembers and veterans keep their homes.
  • Sherrod introduced the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act to increase compensation for veterans with service-related disabilities and military survivors.
  • Sherrod is pushing the VA to modernize veterans’ healthcare records and better protect the personal information contained in those records.
  • Sherrod stood up to big banks and urged them to take the burden off of servicemembers by following through on their promise to cap interest rates for servicemembers.
  • Sherrod introduced the bipartisan Critical Health Access Resource and Grant Extensions Act to extend VA programs that prevent veteran homelessness, support caregivers, and address staffing shortages at State Veterans Homes.
  • Sherrod delivered critical investments to Dayton’s Wright-Patt Air Force Base so the complex and workers have the resources they need to keep our country safe.
  • Sherrod introduced the bipartisan Veterans Affairs Centennial and Heritage Act to place the National VA History Center on the Dayton VA Medical Center campus.
  • When the Chillicothe VA Medical Center faced closure, Sherrod spearheaded the Strengthening the Chillicothe VA Committee, hosted roundtables, and worked across the aisle to successfully keep the center open.
