TOLEDO, OH – Today, Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn, a Republican, and Lucas County Sheriff Michael J. Navarre, a Democrat, joined Senator Sherrod Brown to endorse his reelection campaign.
The Sheriffs highlighted Sherrod’s work writing and passing the bipartisan FEND Off Fentanyl Act alongside Ohio law enforcement, which will keep Ohioans and law enforcement safe from dangerous fentanyl by cracking down on the chemical suppliers in China and drug traffickers in Mexico. Sherrod is also fighting to pass the Social Security Fairness Act to ensure law enforcement officers receive the full social security benefits they deserve.
“The three of us may come from different parties, and we may not agree on everything, but we always come together for the people we serve,” said Senator Sherrod Brown. “When Ohio law enforcement told me they needed new, better equipment to stay safe and do their jobs, I listened. I worked with Ohio law enforcement and Republicans to pass the FEND Off Fentanyl Act and make sure Ohio officers have the resources they need to protect Ohio communities. That’s how you get things done and that’s how I’ll always approach this job.”
“When I endorse a candidate, it’s never based on party or partisanship – it’s about who can do the best job. As a lifelong Republican, I don’t always see eye-to-eye with Sherrod, but when it comes to supporting Ohio law enforcement and communities, no one has done more for Ohio than Sherrod Brown,” said Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn. “Sherrod took what he heard from Ohio law enforcement and border patrol agents back to Washington, where he worked with local law enforcement, the Fraternal Order of Police, and Republicans to keep Ohioans safe from dangerous fentanyl. This isn’t the first time Sherrod worked across the aisle to keep Ohio communities and law enforcement safe, and it won’t be the last.”
“Sherrod has always been a steadfast ally for local law enforcement. He stands with the men and women who put their lives on the line every day, and he fights to make sure we have the tools we need to do our jobs effectively,” said Lucas County Sheriff Michael J. Navarre. “We never have to wonder about where Sherrod stands: he always stands with Ohioans.”
