Toledo Blade: Brown, Kaptur rally voters ahead of November election
Alice Momany – September 14, 2024
- One year after United Auto Workers members walked off the assembly lines and hit the picket lines, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) is making sure they know he will always fight for the working class in Congress.
- “I stand up for the dignity of work every single day,” Mr. Brown said, echoing his usual tagline. “That’s who I am. It’s how I was raised.”
- Mr. Brown was joined by UAW President Shawn Fain and U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) on Saturday at the United Association Local 50 hall in Northwood to rally local Democrats to vote in November.
- Mr. Moreno’s record as a car dealership owner has been scrutinized throughout his campaign. Mr. Moreno has faced a slew of lawsuits for workers’ wages and workplace discrimination. When Mr. Moreno started hitting the campaign trail, he said he did not sell the China-made Buick Envision, which was later disproved.
- “It’s not so much that he lied. He always does,” Mr. Brown said to the crowd. “It’s not so much that he sold those cars. It’s what it did to our workers.”
- Just outside the entrance of Local 50 was a blow-up “fat cat” to symbolize greedy bosses, put there by the Ohio Democratic Party. The cat previously made an appearance in Toledo in August when Mr. Moreno was in town hosting an event about border security.
- Wearing a “Re-elect Sherrod Brown” T-shirt, Mr. Fain also praised the Senator for standing on the picket line last year.
- “Sherrod Brown always has our back. He always has the working class’ back, and we knew Sherrod Brown stood in solidarity with us on the picket lines last fall in Toledo,” Mr. Fain said. “And when our strike expanded to [Streetsboro], he was there also.”

WTOL: “Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur visited with the UAW today to rally Ohioans to vote… As a result of [the Organizing for Ohio] campaign, representatives tell us over 300,000 doors have been knocked on across the state by 4,100 volunteers.”
Rally Attendee Dan Greenberg: “Knocking on doors is going to do a lot to have that face to face contact means so much more than any other way we can motivate people… That one on one conversation we’re having at the doors is really gonna boost people’s understanding of what’s at stake and hopefully help to support Sherrod Brown.”
