COLUMBUS, OH – In a new ad, Sherrod Brown is taking on a rigged system that has only gotten worse by calling to ban Members of Congress and their spouses from trading individual stocks. As Ohio families struggle to make ends meet, Washington politicians like Jon Husted are more focused on lining their own pockets than lowering costs for Ohio families.

“It’s outrageous that Members of Congress like Jon Husted would use their positions to enrich themselves instead of focusing on lowering costs for struggling Ohioans,” said Patrick Eisenhauer, Friends of Sherrod Brown Campaign Manager. “Sherrod will ban congressional stock trading, make it illegal to allow Members of Congress to cash in by becoming lobbyists, and put a stop to this rigged system.

Last year, members of Congress made more than $635 million in stock trades. What’s worse? I’ll bet you’re not all that surprised.

The fact is, we’ve come to expect that kind of thing from Washington. But you shouldn’t, and I never will.

Members of Congress and their spouses should be banned from trading stocks. And if you serve in Congress, you should never be able to cash in and become a lobbyist.
