Columbus Business First: 95,000 Ohioans eligible for foreclosure aid, Brown says

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown says about 95,000 Ohioans will benefit from an $8.5 billion settlement with banks over allegations that they improperly foreclosed on homeowners during the housing crisis.

Brown said Monday that the 95,000 Ohioans who are eligible for payments and loan modifications includes 10,000 in Franklin County. Those awards would average about $2,125 per homeowner, according to a press release.

The Democratic senator was in Columbus touting the benefits Ohioans would receive from the settlement between the federal government and 10 lenders, which included three of Central Ohio’s largest banks: JPMorgan Chase & Company Inc. (NYSE:JPM), PNC Financial Services Group (NYSE:PNC) and U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB).
