Plunderbund.com – Sherrod Brown Says Bannon Should Have Never Been In The White House
News broke Friday afternoon that White House Chief Strategist Steven Bannon is out.
This was after the worst week yet in a seemingly never-ending series of horrible weeks for President Donald Trump and his dysfunctional, chaotic administration.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said what we all know: Bannon should have never been in the White House in the first place.
Here is Brown’s statement in full:
“Steve Bannon should have never been in the White House. He has promoted anti-Semitism, racism and misogyny, embracing the same bigotry and hate speech that have left so many Ohioans feeling unsafe. Bannon has also emboldened white nationalists and neo-Nazis like those who terrorized Charlottesville. His departure is good news, and he should take his dozens of acolytes with him. The real test will be what the President does next to bring our country together. In other words, the President of the United States should begin to act like the President of the United States.”
Those are bold and wholly necessary words from Brown. Every sentence in that statement is on target.
Consider, just over a week after Trump was elected president in November 2016, The New Yorker ran a profile on how Bannon would lead Trump’s White House. This is how it began:
“I’m a Leninist,” Steve Bannon told a writer for The Daily Beast, in late 2013. “Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal, too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”*
At the time, Bannon was the executive chairman of Breitbart News, the far-right news site. When he became the C.E.O. of Donald Trump’s campaign, in August, he told the writer that he had no recollection of the conversation. On Sunday, Trump, in his first personnel decisions as President-elect, named Bannon as his chief strategist and senior counselor and Reince Priebus, the Republican National Committee Chairman, his chief of staff.
The press release from the Trump transition staff said that Bannon and Priebus would be “equal partners.” This is a signal to Washington that Bannon will be the most powerful person in Trump’s White House.
Now both Bannon and Preibus are gone. Unfortunately, the man who was dumb enough to hire them in the first place is still president.
