President Trump once promised: “You’re going to have such great healthcare, at a tiny fraction of the cost—and it’s going to be so easy.”

But over a year later, this administration is doing all it can to make it so difficult for people to get the coverage they need.

No matter what President Trump says, this is the reality for millions of Americans:

Republicans are sabotaging the Affordable Care Act

After vowing to repeal the Affordable Care Act—which has helped millions of people gain the healthcare they deserve—on “day one,” Republicans spent much of President Trump’s first year in office working on plans to roll back the hard-earned progress we have made in helping Americans get covered.

So far, they’ve shortened the period for people to sign up for care through the ACA, and slashed funding for enrollment outreach. They’ve essentially eliminated the individual mandate—a key provision of the law—through their tax scam.

All of these actions create unnecessary chaos in our healthcare system, while driving up costs for many of our friends, family members, and neighbors.

Those with pre-existing conditions could lose coverage

Republicans have spent a lot of the last year-and-a-half presenting various plans that would roll back coverage for Americans with pre-existing conditions.

Everything from asthma to pregnancy to cancer can count as a pre-existing condition. Charging people more for the care they need—especially when they’re dealing with medical issues that can greatly affect their day-to-day life—is particularly cruel.

Medicaid is on the line

The GOP has proposed slashing Medicaid funding multiple times. They’ve also shown support for imposing work requirements attached to Medicaid—which will only make it harder for people across the country to get the care they need.

Thanks to Medicaid expansion, millions of Americans have gotten the care they need.
