Students for Sherrod – Meet Clancy
Name: Clancy T.
School: Ohio University
Major: History
What does college affordability mean to you? Just having the resources to go to college. It’s a huge problem right now. My dad is a teacher in Cleveland. At my high school—90-something percent of us go to college. My dad’s school, less than 15 miles away, fewer kids have the opportunity to go to college. That’s something we need to fix.
What do you see as the biggest issues students face right now? College affordability is a major issue—it determines whether or not you can even consider college. Especially for those who are just starting out or who have younger siblings, it matters to them how much school costs. At any school, sexual assault and feeling safe on campus are also big issues.
Why are you excited to vote for Sherrod this fall? Sherrod has a proven track record of working for all Ohioans. He listens to everyone, and clearly loves to engage with his constituents. Everyone feels like they know him in a way you don’t necessarily know all your elected officials.
The way that Congress looks over the next two years will affect us far beyond these next two years. I believe electing Democrats this year will enact positive change, and I hope my fellow students feel the same way.
