CLEVELAND, Ohio — During an online Senate Committee Hearing, Senator Sherrod Brown grilled Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin about poor pay and safety for essential workers in the national health emergency response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
“How many workers should give their lives to increase our GDP by half a percent?” asked the Senator from Ohio towards the end of his questioning time.
“Your pushing workers back into the workplace, there’s been no national program to provide worker safety. The president says reopen slaughterhouses, nothing about slowing the line down, nothing about getting protective equipment.”

Munchin was testifying with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell before the Senate Banking Committee about the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities Act.
