Banks throughout the country are evicting homeowners and then abandoning the vacant properties — leaving taxpayers on the hook. When banks walk away from these foreclosed homes, they sit abandoned–resulting in decaying properties, increased crime, and neighborhood blight. Meanwhile, fellow taxpayers are left to foot the bill, and see their own home values decrease.

We need stricter rules to keep families in their homes and hold banks accountable. That’s why Sherrod Brown is calling for tougher standards to keep banks from hurting our communities.
