China unfairly imports steel, affecting jobs in Lorain, U.S.
The Morning Journal – LORAIN — As long as China continues to import tons of steel products into the United States that can be sold cheaply, employees at facilities such as U.S. Steel in Lorain will lose their jobs.
In an effort to revitalize the steel industry, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Gov. Ted Strickland and U.S. Rep Betty Sutton applauded a ruling yesterday by the International Trade Commission that said steel tube imports from China are continuing to injure the United States' industry.
Brown testified before the ITC on Dec. 1 on this matter. He is author of the Trade Enforcement Priorities Act of 2009, which would require the United States trade representative to take action against trade practices like subsidies and currency manipulation that unfairly put American workers and businesses at a competitive disadvantage.
