Defense bill funding military technology projects across Ohio

Dayton Daily News – WASHINGTON — The Dayton region is to receive $4.8 million from the latest federal defense appropriations bill for research projects to develop technology for military use.

It is part of $35 million in such funding for projects across Ohio, said U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who announced the grants. Brown said he worked with U.S. House members from the state, including Rep. Mike Turner, R-Centerville, to secure the funding.

The Senate on Saturday, Dec. 19, passed the $635 billion defense spending bill by a vote of 88 to 10. The House had already passed the legislation, so it now goes to President Obama for his signature. It provides funding for the nearly 10 months remaining in fiscal 2010, including $128 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
