Opinion: Sen. Sherrod Brown is at forefront of ending hunger among children
cleveland.com – In his few years in the Senate, Sen. Brown has distinguished himself through his energetic efforts to address hunger. He has introduced a strong bill on child nutrition programs. The Hunger Free Schools Act would help more hungry children enroll in school meals by coordinating with other means-tested programs and allowing high-poverty schools to provide all meals free.
Congress will renew child nutrition programs next year, one of six immediate steps the Roadmap highlights as priorities in fighting child hunger. Sen. Brown's bill would have a significant impact on child hunger and should be included.
Earlier this year, Sen. Brown became chairman of the subcommittee on hunger. It's reassuring that someone with his deep, personal commitment to ending hunger is at the helm.
