Thousands of laid-off Northeast Ohio workers eligible for federal job training benefits

cleveland.com – Ohio — Thousands of former Ford, Delphi and Timken workers in Northeast Ohio will qualify for federal job training, the U.S. Labor Department and Sen. Sherrod Brown said this week.

At Ford's Cleveland Casting Plant in Brook Park, 1,125 laid-off employees are eligible for job training programs under the Trade Adjustment Assistance program, a federal program set up to help workers who had been hurt by outsourcing and foreign trade.

Brown said 953 laid-off Delphi workers at four plants in Trumbull County and a plant in Rootstown, Portage County, qualify for benefits. Brown's office estimates 757 former workers at two Timken plants in Canton qualify for benefits.

"Job loss can devastate families and whole communities," Brown said in a news release. "It's critical that displaced workers have the financial support and skills training opportunities they need to get a fresh start."
