Bill aims to spur manufacturing jobs

The News-Herald – As the U.S. Senate begins votes on a series of jobs bills this week, Sen. Sherrod Brown has sponsored new legislation that he says would create thousands of jobs and assist Ohio's manufacturing sector.

The Investment for Manufacturing Progress and Clean Technology Act would establish a $30 billion Manufacturing Revolving Loan Fund to help small and midsized manufacturers transition to the clean energy economy through retooling, said Brown, D-Ohio.

The bill also would expand the Manufacturing Extension Partnership in order to help manufacturers access new export markets, he said.

"We need to work alongside the private sector — particularly the manufacturing industry — to create jobs," Brown said.

During a conference call Wednesday with statewide media, the senator said businesses are telling him and others that they need access to dollars to help them increase their operations and hire new employees.
