Brown appointed to Senate committee
The Morning Journal – WASHINGTON — Sen. Sherrod Brown was appointed to the powerful U.S. Senate appropriations committee yesterday, making him the seventh Ohioan to serve on the committee.
Brown’s appointment will fill the vacancy left after West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd died on June 28.
The appropriations committee is responsible for setting funding levels for all federal programs, making the appointment a demanding position to have. Because of the time the committee demands, Brown will give up his seat on the health, education, labor and pensions committee, but will continue to work with the Senate banking, veterans and agriculture committees.
