Brown enters debate on OTR prison re-entry center
Business Courier – Sen. Sherrod Brown has asked the Federal Bureau of Prisons to consider the concerns of the community before locating a new prison re-entry center in Over-the-Rhine.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons received a proposal from Pennsylvania-based Firetree Ltd. late last year to build a residential federal offender re-entry center just a few blocks from the new School for the Creative and Performing Arts.
Many city and community leaders are opposed to the proposal, as the Business Courier first reported Nov. 27. Opponents say historic Over-the-Rhine already has an over-concentration of social service agencies and that adding another prison re-entry program would be too much of a burden for the neighborhood.
