Brown introduces bill to curb corporate spending
Chillicothe Gazette – Sen. Sherrod Brown announced Thursday he would be introducing a new bill aimed at curbing the influence of corporations on the public election process.
Brown said the bill has been crafted in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that corporations can use company money to spend on political advertisements and broadcasts.
"Corporations already have far more influence in the political process than I think they should," Brown said, adding corporations spent $3.3 billion to lobby Congress in 2009. "They lobbied us on everything from prescription drugs, financial reform, to … trade issues."
Brown's bill, the Citizens Right to Know Act, would include three main parts.
