Brown to unveil campaign finance bill
The Columbus Dispatch – If the U.S. Supreme Court says corporations and labor unions can spend as much as they want on federal campaign contributions, Sen. Sherrod Brown says that spending should be more "transparent."
The Ohio Democrat plans to unveil legislation Thursday that would "subject corporate campaign contributions to new measures of transparency and accountability and crack down on the influence of foreign-owned companies," according to Brown's office. The decision to introduce the legislation "follows a January Supreme Court decision ruling that corporations can use company dollars to influence the democratic process."
That Supreme Court decision also paved the way to allow more big bucks labor union contributions too, of course, or for that matter any type of special interest spending.
