Cleveland hub stays for now in Continental-United merger, city to fight
WKYC – CLEVELAND — United Airlines and Continental Airlines announced Monday a merger worth $3 billion that would make the new United Airlines the largest airline, while keeping a Cleveland hub.
In a united front, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson was joined by Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, U.S. Sen Sherrod Brown and Cleveland City Council President Martin Sweeney to talk about what the merger of United and Continental Airlines means to Cleveland.
Jackson says he has been talking to Continental CEO Jeff Smisek and hopes to meet with him soon.
Continental and Cleveland have had a relationship for more than 20 years and has "one of the most efficient and customer friendly," facilities according to Jackson.
