DOE makes it official: USEC gets its $45 million

Columbus Dispatch – The Department of Energy made it official today: USEC is getting a long-promised $45 million to keep working on the technology for its American Centrifuge uranium enrichment plant project in Piketon, Ohio.

It is merely official confirmation of a Dispatch report last month, but nonetheless is welcome news for backers of the project.

“This represents a sustained federal commitment to the American Centrifuge Project at Piketon,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio. “These funds will ensure that the American Centrifuge Project is at the strongest standing possible in advance of the steps that will carry this project forward. This federal investment will ensure that the Piketon community is on a path towards continued job creation and economic growth.”
