Federal grant to preserve Erie County coast
The Morning Journal – KELLEYS ISLAND — A federal grant will help preserve coastal land in Erie County.
The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration has awarded $476,000 for Erie MetroParks and the Western Reserve Land Conservancy to acquire 18.5 acres of red cedar forest on the east side of Kelleys Island.
“It’s critical that we preserve the coast of Lake Erie,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, who announced the grant money today.
“Protecting the Great Lakes is about protecting our regional economy and the livelihood of thousands of Ohioans,” Brown said.
