Federal money will be used to train laid-off auto industry employees

The Morning Journal – LORAIN — An Energy Training Partnership grant of more than $4.82 million will pay for displaced autoworkers from Lorain, Erie, Huron and 41 other counties to receive training to install green technology.

The money comes as part of $24 million targeted for Ohio communities hurt by job cuts in the auto industry. The money was announced yesterday by U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis and Sen. Sherrod Brown.

The money will help Ohio "become the Silicon Valley of clean energy manufacturing," Brown said.

"These funds will help prepare Ohio workers for the clean energy jobs of the 21st century," Brown said. "Ohio already has a skilled workforce and a rich manufacturing heritage."
