Federal officials weigh in on donation
Wilmington News Journal – With the agreement between DHL Express and the Clinton County Port Authority to donate the air park to the community still to be finalized, proposals are being discussed by federal government officials to help jump-start the effort to bring new jobs to the air park.
U.S. Rep. Michael Turner raised the prospect of partnering with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on projects that would create job opportunities at the air park.
And, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown has submitted proposals to the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to provide two types of revolving loan funds to help rejuvenate the air park and attract new business.
…Brown reported that after Tuesday’s announcement in Wilmington he wrote Assistant Secretary of Commerce John Fernandez, urging that the Department of Commerce expedite consideration of two proposals submitted by Wilmington officials to EDA.
“Both proposals submitted to EDA will complement the ownership transfer of the Wilmington Air Park,” Brown said.
