Feds to award millions for ‘clean energy’ job training

Dayton Daily News – Ohio stands to gain nearly $8.8 million in grants from U.S. Department of Labor to train dislocated workers and others in “green” jobs, the federal government said Wednesday, Jan. 6.

The state also stands to share in another $14.6 million in grants disbursed to several states for the same purpose.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown hailed the federal money.

“Ohio is on the way to becoming the Silicon Valley of clean energy manufacturing,” he said in a conference call announcing the grants with Hilda Solis, the secretary of labor.

The idea is to pay for training workers in jobs for clean energy public transportation, wind, solar, geothermal, manufacturing and other sectors.
