Kroger, others back new food-safety rules
Cincinnati Enquirer – One week before the U.S. Senate voted in favor of new food-safety rules, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, gave a shout-out to Kroger Co. for its efforts to make produce traceable to where it is grown.
Kroger executives have spent many days in Congress over the past two years lobbying for stricter food safety and recall prevention policies. Back at their headquarters downtown, executives have reformed the way Kroger communicates with customers about food recalls, enforced new manufacturing safety standards and instituted a food tracking system called HarvestMark that lets customers learn the origination of salad and produce they buy at stores.
