Lawmakers Lobby Support, Funding For GE Engine

WCPO – EVENDALE, Ohio — General Electric is entering its final test period for a competitive engine used for the government's new military jet, but the project needs additional funding.

On Tuesday, Senator Sherrod Brown and local lawmakers attended a town hall meeting at the GE Aviation Learning Center to lobby up more support and federal funding.

The project is currently funded through the government's Armed Services Committee, but due to recent budget cuts, funding is in jeopardy.

GE has teamed up with Rolls Royce to create and develop the F-136 engine and is already 70 percent through its development.

The engine for the F-36 Joint Strike Fighter will be a major innovation for military branches across the nation.
