Legislation Would Help Update Sewers
Cincinnati Enquirer – Thanks to Jessica Brown for drawing attention to the environmental and economic issues surrounding water and sewer systems (“A $3.5 billion fix for Hamilton Co. sewers,” July 19). It’s critical that we renovate old sewer systems to prevent wastewater from entering the Ohio River and the Mill Creek combined sewage overflows to protect the environment. I’ve convened more than 150 roundtable community discussions since 2007, holding at least one in each of Ohio’s 88 counties. At nearly every one of them, I’ve heard how critical modern and affordable sewer systems are for attracting new employers. But the renovation costs for these upgrades should not fall solely on local rate payers.
