The Morning Journal – President Barack Obama will be in Lorain County Jan. 22 to meet with workers, businesses executives, small business owners and local leaders as a stop on the White House to Main Street Tour.

The White House said Obama will meet looking for "ideas for continuing to grow the economy and put Americans back to work."

This is the first presidential visit to Lorain County since Harry Truman's whistle-stop visit in 1948, according to Sen. Sherrod Brown.

"President Obama will spend the day in the Lorain County area speaking to Ohioans about the challenges they are facing and listening to their ideas for how we will continue to work together to turn the economy around," according to the White House. Officials have to assess safety and setup before any decisions will be made as to where and when the event will take place, said Tom Smith, chairman of the Lorain County Democratic Party.

Brown said he looks forward to the presidential visit to the county where he lives, and believes the visit will mimic that of Truman's.

"Truman fought for workers and the middle class, and President Obama is doing the same," he said. "Our number one priority in Ohio is to create jobs, and I applaud the president for traveling to Lorain to discuss job creation and the economy. Our state — Lorain County in particular — has a rich manufacturing heritage and skilled workforce."
