President Obama to visit V&M Star
Warren Tribune Chronicle – YOUNGSTOWN – President Barack Obama will tour V&M Star, then speak with workers of the steel pipe manufacturer during Tuesday's visit to Youngstown, the White House announced Friday afternoon.
''I'm not surprised,'' Girard Mayor James Melfi said. ''Obviously, with the $20 million in stimulus money going to that site. I'm sure it says a lot, with the revival of steel / manufacturing. It's obviously a perfect place for him to stop by and see success.''
V&M Star is undergoing a $650 million project to locate a new steel pipe mill on the Girard / Youngstown border, in part made possible by nearly $20 million in federal economic stimulus package dollars for infrastructure improvements.
The money, in addition for road, water and sewerline work, is being used to relocate a railroad line to provide space for the expansion.
