Raizk, Brown suggest postal center move to Wilmington

Wilmington News Journal – The U.S. Postal Service has announced plans to close the mail transport service center in Jeffersonville, but U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown is urging either a reversal of that decision or consideration of an alternate proposal of relocating to the Wilmington Air Park.

Brown made the request in a letter to John E. Potter, postmaster general and CEO of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) in Washington, D.C.

The USPS has announced plans to end its contract with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), which runs the Mail Transport Equipment Service Center (MTESC) in Jeffersonville. Brown said reports have indicated that the facility will close in June, with voluntary layoffs to begin as early as May 13.

In the letter to Potter, Brown urged the USPS to consider redevelopment of the Wilmington Air Park for use as a consolidated operation for sorting and MTE coordination.
