Sen. Brown talks with businesses
Marietta Times – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, discussed issues facing local manufacturers during a roundtable session hosted by Thermo Fisher Scientific in Marietta Monday afternoon.
Brown, who serves on the Senate Banking Committee, said through 150 similar roundtable events he's learned that credit in the current economy is obviously a major problem for manufacturing companies and other businesses.
"There are a lot of 'Catch-22s' you're encountering in order to obtain credit for your companies," he said.
Damian Lang, owner of three local construction companies, agreed.
"Our local community banks have been with us for years, and they're still backing us, but now they've reappraised our properties and equipment at about 40 percent less than before," he said. "They say it's not the local banks, but the regulatory examiners that are causing them to do this.
