Sen. Sherrod Brown co-sponsors energy rebate bill for homeowners

The Morning Journal – WASHINGTON — Legislation to create a rebate program to help homeowners install energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning systems could help the Lorain County economy, according to a Sheffield Village businessman.

“This would be fantastic for us,” said Jim Sustersic, owner of J.D. Indoor Comfort Inc., which installs and services heating, cooling and refrigeration systems. “It would increase my business by at least a third.”

Sustersic was discussing the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act of 2010, co-sponsored by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown. It is designed to boost Ohio manufacturing by providing rebates to consumers who purchase energy-efficient products or retrofit their homes to reduce energy costs, according to Brown’s office. President Obama endorsed the program in his 2010 State of the Union Address.

A similar, but more narrowly focused federal program, the Home Weatherization Assistance Program, has already benefited 128 homes in Lorain County, according to Brown’s office.
