Senator Sherrod Brown Honored at Public Policy Conference
National MS Society – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio was honored as the National MS Society's 2009 Senator of the Year during the Society's Public Policy Conference on March 3 in Washington, D.C. Senator Brown has shown remarkable leadership on behalf of those living with MS and other chronic conditions.
His efforts include:
- Authoring a letter to the Senate Appropriations Chairman requesting $15 million for MS research in the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs
- Pursuing affordable treatment – Senator Brown had led efforts to create a pathway for the Food and Drug Administration to review and approve safe and effective generic biologic drugs.
- Sponsoring an amendment that would protect coverage for individuals electing to participate in clinical trials
