Senator Sherrod Brown visits workers for Meggitt, marks triumph in fight for jobs
Akron Beacon Journal – Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown stopped by the United Auto Workers Local 856 hall on Tuesday to highlight local jobs that were spared from being moved to Mexico.
Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems, which makes parts for commercial and military aircraft, in December 2007 had announced it was going to shift operations from its Massillon Road facility near the Akron Airdock to Mexico. In April 2009, Brown announced that Meggitt would be keeping the U.S. defense-related jobs in its Akron facility while continuing to move commercial manufacturing jobs to Mexico.
