State nets $125M in tax credits
The Columbus Dispatch – WASHINGTON — Ohio companies will receive nearly $125 million in "clean-energy manufacturing" tax credits, the Obama administration and Sen. Sherrod Brown said yesterday.
It was the second time this week that Democrats touted millions of federal stimulus dollars headed for Ohio as part of the administration's attempt to create jobs via a clean-energy economy. And it came on a day when the unemployment rate nationally stayed stuck in double digits.
Ohio companies are sharing in a national pool of $2.3 billion in clean-energy manufacturing tax credits.
On Wednesday, the Labor Department said Ohio will receive or share in more than $23 million worth of worker-retraining grants.
The tax credits unveiled yesterday stem from the $787 billion stimulus package and are going to solar-energy companies such as First Solar in Perrysburg and Xunlight Corp. in Toledo, as well as an arm of the DuPont Co. in Circleville involved in making solar panels. Also on the Ohio list: A General Electric lighting facility in Bucyrus is getting a credit to re-equip a plant to make energy-efficient lamps.
