US senator introduces bill to promote offshore wind projects
Recharge News – Program for Offshore Wind Energy Research and Development (POWERED) Act of 2010 would spur research on potential offshore wind projects, expand offshore wind development incentives and require the US Energy Department (DOE) to develop a comprehensive road map to carry through offshore wind deployment.
Brown, an Ohio Democrat, says his bill would create the Offshore Wind Power Research and Development Program at DOE.
The program would assist and coordinate offshore wind power analysis and implementation efforts by giving grants to states, colleges and universities, and industry-academic consortia to conduct wind power analysis in several critical areas. They include:
