County nets fed grant to upgrade Plant C
Ashtabula Star Beacon – Sen. Sherrod Brown announced Friday the U.S. Economic Development Administration will release $1.5 million to the Ashtabula County Port Authority for upgrades to Plant C.
“That is fantastic news for Ashtabula County,” said Sean Ratican, Port Authority executive director. “Raw water from Lake Erie is one of Ashtabula County’s best economic development resources. This grant guarantees that resource will be a viable option for decades to come.”
The authority is matching the federal grant with $1.5 million from a state loan that is repaid by users of the system. The $3 million project will replace the pumps and pipes that draw water from Lake Erie and deliver it to the industries that depend upon it for their processes.
“This is a $3 million project that will benefit every single person in Ashtabula County, directly or indirectly,” Ratican said
