Brown invites Agricultural Department rep to view Erie algal bloom
Chronicle Telegram – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown has invited the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s chief conservation expert to Ohio to witness the blue-green algae bloom in the western basin of Lake Erie that has spread to Lorain.
Brown, D-Avon, sent a letter Thursday inviting Dave White, chief of the Natural Resource Conservation Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to visit and examine the problem, according to a news release from Brown’s office.
On Thursday, the Natural Resource Conservation Service released a report indicating “conservation practice use in the Great Lakes region has reduced sediment, nutrient, and pesticide losses from farm fields,” but more opportunities remain for reducing pollution sources that contribute to the algae bloom.
