Brown weighs in on lockout at Urbana company
Columbus Dispatch – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown is weighing in on a labor dispute at an Urbana company.
In a letter to Chief Executive Officer Daniel Muth of International Fiber Corporation, the Ohio Democrat urged International Fiber to resume negotiations with workers.
International Fiber’s most recent collective bargaining agreement with the workers expired on Feb. 12. Because the union and the company did not reach an agreement, the company imposed a lockout on May 3.
“It is my understanding that these workers are seeking fair and equitable wages, benefits, and job security, but they have been locked out since May 3,” Brown wrote. “I have also been informed that these hard-working employees and the union have asked management to lift the lockout, bring the employees back to work, and to resume negotiations in good faith, but to no avail.”
Brown urged International Fiber to begin bargaining with representatives of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 957.
