Brown expected to chair influential panel
The Columbus Dispatch – WASHINGTON Sen. Sherrod Brown is expected to be named chairman of a key banking subcommittee, one that has jurisdiction over the nation's banks, insurance companies, credit unions and thrifts.
By heading the Senate Banking Committee's subcommittee on financial institutions, Brown, D-Ohio, will chair a panel that has considerable impact in the Buckeye State.
Brown's appointment, which will become official next week, also gives the state a voice on both the Senate and House banking panels. Freshman Rep. Steve Stivers, R-Columbus, won a seat on the House Financial Services Committee.
Former Republican Congressman David L. Hobson, R-Springfield, said while "there may be some differences in approach'' with Brown and Stivers, he said he was "sure there is some common ground they can find that would be good for people here.''
