Brown, Ohio MADD support sensor to curb drunken driving

The News-Herald – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and the Ohio chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving are supporting legislation that aims to develop new technology to immobilize cars when a driver has had to much to drink.

The Roads Safe Act would promote the development of Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety program that people could choose to install in their cars, said Brown, D-Ohio, during a conference call Wednesday with statewide media members.

Courts could also choose to order those convicted of driving drunk to have the technology installed in their cars.

Existing devices, such as ignition locks, can be expensive and obtrusive, the senator said.
