Brown reintroduces bus safety bill after Mount Union crash

Columbus Dispatch Sen. Sherrod Brown says he will reintroduce a long-stalled motorcoach safety bill in the wake of a a fatal accident in Crawford County near Bucyrus, Ohio, involving a bus transporting the University of Mount Union's wrestling team.

The Ohio Democrat first introduced the legislation, which would mandate that motorcoaches have seat belts and more crash-resistant windows and roofs, after a 2007 bus crash in Georgia resulted in the deaths of seven people, including members of the Bluffton University baseball team.

Daniel M. Gorman, Mount Union's director of athletic training, died Tuesday night after the bus transporting him and 27 others collided with a snowplow while returning back to campus in Alliance after a wrestling match against Ohio Northern University in Ada.
