Brown says bipartisanship needed to advance economy

The Morning Journal – WASHINGTON — To prove that it’s more about collaboration than being a Democrat or a Republican, Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, and Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican, sat on the same side at last night’s State of the Union address.

“It’s not the ‘D’ or ‘R’ next to our names, but the ‘OH’ that is important,” Brown said. “Rob and I may come from different parties, but we’re both dedicated to creating jobs in Ohio. Sitting together at the State of the Union will demonstrate that we want to work together on a bipartisan basis to advance economic development in Ohio.”

Brown hopes the idea creates a tradition for future State of the Union addresses.

Before the address, Brown had a conference call to lay out his plans and goals for the rest of the year. He said he hopes to focus on the same five themes as President Barack Obama: innovation, education, infrastructure, deficit reduction and reforming government.
