Sen. Brown opposes House cuts in Pell Grants
Columbus Dispatch – Sen. Sherrod Brown told university presidents from Ohio that House Republican efforts to reduce federal spending on Pell Grants “makes no sense to me and no sense to our future.”
In a speech last week in Washington, Brown, D-Ohio, vowed that the Senate would “restore” the GOP cuts in the program, which provides money for low-income people to attend college. The House, in its spending measure for the rest of this fiscal year, wants to slice nearly $1 billion from Pell Grants.
“I know it’s an era of limits,” Brown told the presidents.
