Dems attend town hall
Warren Tribune Chronicle – Inside Union Baptist Church in Youngstown, approximately 200 residents gathered to take part in a town hall meeting about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Charlene Allan, a coordinator with the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative, said the size of the crowd and the political figures in attendance made the event a success.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan and state Sen. Capri Cafaro, all Democrats, attended.
”It was a success in the attendance and a success in the information shared,” Allen said. ”It was a success in the fact that three of our key politicians showed up and answered questions members of the community had.”
The audience of senior citizens, residents and local leaders looked to the elected officials for protection.
”Senator Brown, will you work with us to protect our Social Security and Medicaid and Medicare?” said Allen, who repeated the same question to each of the three elected officials.
”(These events) gives us, Congressman Ryan and myself, a chance to hear what they’re saying … these are personal stories,” Brown said.
