Group lobbies for funds to children’s hospitals

Dayton Daily News – While Congress tussled over how best to raise the debt ceiling Tuesday, an 11-year-old Carlisle cancer survivor visited a series of congressional offices urging lawmakers to support funding for children’s hospitals.

Bailey Allen was 6 weeks old when her mother noticed a bump on the bottom of her foot. The bump turned out to be infantile fibrosarcoma. Doctors told Angie Allen, Bailey’s mom, that the only way to save her life would be by amputating her foot.

Today, Bailey is cancer-free and plays soccer, softball and basketball — with both feet. She was treated at the Children’s Medical Center in Dayton, which gave her the option of surgery and chemotherapy rather than amputation.
