Loss of federal judgeship is all GOP’s fault
The Plain Dealer — The Plain Dealer is correct that the Northern District of Ohio is losing a federal judge ("No rush on Capitol Hill," Saturday). But it is incorrect to tar all of Congress with the failure to extend this temporary federal judgeship.
As your editorial notes, it was Senate Republicans in the last Congress who refused to act on judicial nominees throughout the year. It was Senate Republicans who, in the final hours of the session, changed their minds and opted not to support an omnibus appropriations bill that contained the extension. And it was Senate Republicans who objected to including the extension of the judgeship in a stopgap spending bill that was adopted in December.
