Ohio’s politicians emerging as a force on Capitol Hill

Dayton Daily News – WASHINGTON — Every four years, Ohio is the state that no presidential candidate wants to miss. And for a very good reason: Without Ohio, it is very difficult for a candidate from either party to assemble the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

But then the day after the election, Ohio goes from essential to afterthought. When picking their cabinets and senior advisers, presidents all but ignore Ohio. And, quite frankly, the state has not produced many towering political figures worthy of joining a presidential cabinet.

That may slowly be changing. Following last November’s off-year elections, Ohio’s politicians are emerging as more of a force on Capitol Hill.
